What is a Contra Dance?
Contra, began as English Country dances that regained popularity over the course of Jane Austen's writing career. These dances will look familiar to fans of Pride and Prejudice. They are fun, energetic and easy. The steps are simple because a caller tells the dancers the movements while the song plays. Forgetful? Perfect, don't worry, because the caller tells you what to do! Don't have a partner? Not a problem. These are group numbers, so anyone can ask anyone else to dance. Contra has it all: it is family friendly, promotes a sense of community and last, but not least, there is great live bluegrass style music.
